European Union leaders saw eye to eye on the importance of border protection and preventing illegal migrants from entering the EU, but there continues to be disagreement on such issues as resettlement and immigration, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said on Friday, summing up the first day of the EU summit in Brussels. He said that talks had been "a political fistfight". He insisted that "still there are too many [countries], big and strong, that do not want to stop migration but rather help migrants get into Europe before distributing them on a mandatory basis. Orban went on to say that "Poles, Czechs, Slovaks, Slovenians and we [Hungarians] did well in the battle" and "held on to our positions, but we could not convince our adversaries". He added, however, that "the dispute is not over" and would resume in March.
