The number of two-year-old children in nurseries in the Czech Republic has been rising, however, the situation varies in the regions, according to data released by the Czech Statistical Office (CSU) at a press conference on Wednesday. The total number of children in nurseries has not changed much in the past three years. It was 364,000 last year. "In the past ten years, the number of two-year-old children in nurseries rose from 26,000 to 45,000," Helena Chodounska, of the CSU, said. About 40 percent of all two-year-old children stayed in nurseries at least some days in the week in the past school year, while in 2008/2009, it was about a quarter.
