Minister wants state to pay 90 pc of cannabis price for patients

January 29th, 2019

The Czech Health Ministry wants the state to cover 90 percent of the medical cannabis price for patients, who pay for cannabis from their own pockets now, and it is preparing a new bill in this respect, Minister Adam Vojtech (for ANO) told journalists today. The state would subsidise the purchase of up to 30 grammes of cannabis by a patient a month, he said, adding that the measure would cost the state 150 million crowns a year. Medical cannabis has been legal in the Czech Republic since 2013. The use of cannabis for other than medical purposes is illegal in the country. Last year, the monthly average number of patients with cannabis prescribed by a doctor was 67, with the average consumption of 6.3 grammes.
