Minister says farmers' protest 'political activity'

Agriculture and Rural Development Minister Gabriela Matecna (Slovak National Party/SNS) perceives the upcoming protest of discontented farmers, slated for February in Bratislava, as a political activity. Many of the individuals affiliated with the protest were unsuccessful in municipal elections, Matecna said. She added that the ministry drafted an amendment to the Renting of Agricultural and Forest Land Act, put up a transparent website for the Agricultural Payment Agency and other activities with an eye towards accommodating the demands raised by farmers. Patrik Magdosko of the Farmers Initiative announced that the protest will be held on February 19 in Bratislava.
