The Slovak Foreign Affairs Ministry on Thursday appreciated that the Senate of the US Congress has adopted a resolution commemorating the 30th anniversary of the Velvet Revolution as well as the creation of the First Czechoslovak Republic in 1918 and the independent Slovak Republic in 1993, TASR learnt on the same day from the ministry. According to the ministry, the resolution was presented by ranking member of the US Senate committee on foreign relations subcommittee on Europe and regional security co-operation Jeanne Shaheen along with subcommittee chair Ron Johnson. The document highly praises the development in both Slovakia and the Czech Republic over the past 30 years, appreciates the contribution of both countries as members of NATO to defending and promoting the common values of democracy and freedom and confirms the close friendship and alliance of the USA with the two countries.
