On Friday, the people of Krakow (southern Poland) paid tribute to those killed in the city by the communist authorities between 1945 and 1956. The ceremonies took place at Krakow's Cross of Remembrance and beside the commemorative plaque on the city's Montelupich prison. Participants paid homage and prayed for the 68 victims of communist oppression listed on the plaque, most of whom had been sentenced to death by Krakow's District Military Court after a show trial.
