President Andrej Kiska on Monday signed the law abolishing the special levy for retail chains. The proposal to scrap the law was submitted in reaction to a preliminary injunction of the European Commission to suspend the application of the law. The authors of the bill explained this solution by the fact that there are no time limits for the EC's examination. This will open a possibility to seek a new, faster and more effective mechanism to help Slovak farmers and food producers. "The reason for continuation of the European Commission's proceedings will cease to exist by scrapping the law," they argued.
