The Foreign Ministry rejects Martin Schulz, president of the European Parliament, branding Hungary as anti-Semitic, it said in a statement on Friday. Brussels Metro newspaper recently reported Schulz as saying: "Hungary wants to count the Jews". The EP president told the paper anti-Semitism is under control but not eliminated. In a Friday statement, the ministry rejected the EP president's "unprecedented charge, declaring a nation as a whole anti-Semitic."
