Hungary's foreign minister optimistic regarding end of deficit procedure

May 24th, 2013

Foreign Minister Janos Martonyi said it was likely the European Commission would soon lift the excessive deficit procedure (EDP) launched against Hungary in 2004. Martonyi told MTI that, based on information through several channels, a positive answer is expected at the meeting next Wednesday. News website Bruxinfo reported on Friday cited unnamed sources as saying that it is certain the commission will propose to drop the EDP against Hungary, which makes it likely that Ecofin will decide to end the procedure at its June 21 meeting.
