Istvan Nagy, Hungary's farm minister, opened the 27th Farmer Expo in Debrecen, in eastern Hungary, on Friday. In his opening address, Nagy singled out drought as the biggest threat to Hungary's agriculture today. Hungary's surface waters are used to irrigate 80,000 hectares of land across the country, even though the existing irrigation system would be sufficient to cover 200,000 hectares, the minister said.
