An employee of the Public Health Institute (OKI) has been in hospital due to accidental exposure to filovirus at the institute's National Security Laboratory a week ago, OKI told MTI on Friday. Filovirus is in the same family as Ebola or the Marburg virus. OKI contacted the World Health Organisation immediately after the accident and the patient was vaccinated within 24 hours. The patient, who has been under observation, has not shown symptoms other than reactions to the vaccine, OKI said. OKI also said that there was no hazard for other employees or for the general public.
