Government declares 2019 year of M.R. Stefanik

February 6th, 2019

At the proposal of the Culture Ministry, the Government has agreed that 2019 will be the year of Milan Rastislav Stefanik, TASR learnt on Wednesday. The declaration pays tribute to one of the most distinguished personalities in modern Slovak history and at the same time reflects on the anniversary that Slovakia will commemorate in the case of Stefanik. "It will be 100 years on May 4 this year since the tragic death of M. R. Stefanik near Ivanka pri Dunaji [Bratislava region], while on July 21, 2020 it will be the 140th anniversary of his birth in Kosariska near Brezova pod Bradlom [both Trencin region]," noted the Culture Ministry.
