If next year's budget proves to be the first balanced budget in Poland's post-communist history, this will be a historic moment, prime ministerial aide Michal Dworczyk said on TV on Monday, commenting on media reports to this effect. On Monday, the Rzeczpospolita daily quoted government sources as saying that the 2020 budget could be the first totally balanced Polish budget in the post-communist era, meaning that Poland will not have to borrow money to finance its expenses. The Council of Ministers is to debate next year's budget at its Tuesday sitting. Asked if the daily's claims were reliable, Dworczyk said more on the subject will be known after Tuesday's budget debate, adding that a balanced 2020 budget would be a "historic moment."
