Polish companies generate more than one third of the country's GDP and are the biggest employer in Poland as well as investing more than international corporations, accrding to a recent report on the Polish economy prepared by Polityka Insight. Poland has 662,000 entrepreneurs who run 884,000 companies. An entrepreneur was defined as a founder and administrator of a business that employs at least one person, according to Polityka Insight's chief economist, Adam Czerniak. This is aimed at excluding from the research self-employed people as well as joint-stock companies with dispersed ownership, he added. There are about 1.2 million self-employed people in Poland plus tens of thousands of foreign company owners, Czerniak added.
