Czech soldier killed in Afghanistan to be buried in Chomutov

August 10th, 2018

The funeral of Martin Marcin, one of the three Czech soldiers of the mechanised battalion in Tabor who fell prey to an assassin in Afghanistan, will be held on August 14 in Chomutov's St Ignatius of Loyola Church, General Staff spokeswoman Vlastimila Cyprisova told CTK on Friday. The Chomutov municipality also established a commemorative place near the church. Marcin, 36, Kamil Benes, 28, and Patrik Stepanek, 25, were killed by a suicide bombing claimed by the Taliban radical Islamist movement. An Afghan man set a bomb off in the soldiers' vicinity when they were patrolling near the Bagram allied forces base.
