Bojnice National Zoo (Trencin region) has put 41 of its birds to sleep so far because of avian influenza, TASR learnt from State Veterinary and Food Administration (SVPS) executive director Jozef Bires on Monday. The zoo destroyed birds that had been kept in a group with dead birds or exhibited unusual behaviour or health. As of Sunday (January 26) there were a total of 493 birds at the zoo belonging to 158 species. According to vets, wild birds are the likely source of the infection. Bojnice Zoo will be temporarily closed to the public.
